Why we use it:

Aluminium is particularly well suited for outdoor use, as it is impervious to rust as well as being light and strong. Another fantastic feature is that aluminium can be painted in a wide range of different colours to keep in step with the current styles and trends.

FourMileBay’s aluminium products are designed in-house and all tested to ensure that constructions are durable enough to withstand the rigours of outdoor life. A growing global trend has seen aluminium combined with other materials including recycled teak, new teak and artificial rattan, producing some surprising and truly inspiring looks.

Aluminium

Why we use it:

Artificial Rattan, also known as "Wicker" or "Poly-Rattan" rose in popularity in the early 2000's and still has a major presence in the outdoor furniture industry. Cost effective production in the far easy along with its natural visual appeal and excellent resistance to the elements makes it a great choice for any home.

Weaving of this material takes many years of experience and training with Vietnam and Indonesia being FourMileBay's production locations of choice for the fine balance between quality and value.

All of Four Mile Bay’s synthetic rattan is woven in Vietnam or Indonesia to guarantee that the weaving quality and worker’s care is always maintained to the highest realistic levels. All of our artificial rattan is formulated using virgin material and UV stability can be catered to the market in which the product is sold to ensure long life and colour fastness.

Steel

Why we use it:

Steel is a metal that like-for-like weighs more than aluminium and is considerably stronger. Steel is typically powder coated and galvanised in order to prevent rusting and give a sleek finish that at a first glance makes it indistinguishable from its more expensive counterpart, aluminium.

Like aluminium and other metals, steel is a particularly good choice for furniture due to its strength and durability. As well as its resilience to the elements, steel also offers superior protection against damage, chipping or scratching, making it an almost indestructible choice when produced in the right way.

Caution must always be exercised to ensure steel is protected from rust, as once exposed to water and oxygen the rust process will begin to degrade the steel material but when done correctly, steel is a fantastic choice for creating cost effective and complex designs.

Teak

Why we use it

Following criticism in the 1990’s due to illegal logging and subsequent deforestation, there has since been a huge conservation effort centred around teak.

At Four Mile Bay, all of our teak is produced from FSC certified sources or sources with full and complete chain of custody thus abiding by the EU's FLEGT regulation. This gives you and your customers the peace of mind that our teak originates solely from responsibly managed sources. We can also apply a multitude of different coatings and finishes to our teak, in order to create a variety of looks.

Teak offers a multitude of different benefits, most notably its beautiful colour and grain. As well as its charming appearance, teak also offers superb durability and strength, with fantastic weather resistance and an ability to withstand splitting and cracking.

Why we use it

Eucalyptus & Acacia offer a more affordable alternative to teak which still provides a number of key benefits. The wood naturally contains oils with insect, water and moisture repelling properties that help with the condition and lifespan of the furniture, providing resistance to rot and decay ensuring it is well maintained.

Both Eucalyptus & Acacia are particularly fast growing trees, meaning they are a sustainable resource and popular choice amongst environmentally conscious consumers.

Eucalyptus wood boasts rich, red-brown tones and a variety of light grain patterns and Acacia has a more light, pale finish with the presence of knots which give it character. Both can be finished smooth or rough depending on market tastes and retain the sturdiness and supportive qualities that make them a superb value choice for use indoors and out.

Outdoor Cushions

Why we use it

At FourMileBay, we are one of the few furniture companies that specialise and focus on cushions and comfort using both textures, colours and varieties of substrates to create different appeals.  As a result of this, the firmness and overall comfort of our cushions can be tailored to suit the specific market or customer and the sky really is the limit!

With a thick and comfortable filling, the majority of our cushions range from spun-polyester all the way to solution died acrylic and fully outdoor PU material for the all year round weather resistance. As a minimum, all our fabrics are scrutinised to ensure excellent performance outdoor against the risks of fading in the sunlight and colour fastness.

Why we use them

In addition to our passion for cushions, we also provide custom-fitted furniture covers to ensure that the products we create can be suitably looked after and protected from the weather.

We believe that maintenance is key to ensuring that furniture retains its condition and appearance and furniture covers are an important part of this - enhancing the longevity and minimising wear and tear during the cold months.

Our covers are made using coated polyester, offering resistance to weather conditions, moisture and UV rays. Designed to be the perfect fit for each product, our covers typically fasten using an adjustable cord.
